Lance Brittan always planned on being a professional athlete; the chosen sport may have just been a little unclear, however. The 35-year-old bullfighter, who now resides in Windsor, Colorado, originally had dreams of playing Major League Baseball. Lance attended Garden City Community College on a baseball scholarship. Still, Lance’s career would soon take a different direction.

Jake, who is the oldest by one minute, heads while Jim takes care of the heeling responsibilities.

Fifteen years ago, Tie-Down Roper Stran Smith of Childress, Texas arrived to compete in rodeos in a single-cab pickup pulling a one horse trailer. This year, Stran arrived to Rodeo Austin in a 40ft bus hauling a four-horse trailer, complete with his wife Jennifer, his two kids, his nephew, his sister, three horses, two dogs, and two cats. Times have certainly changed for Stran.

Shandon Stalls of McLean, TX makes a living as one of the unsung heroes in rodeo, a Ram Pickup Man. Ram Pickup men are responsible for the safety and well-being of both roughstock riders and the livestock. They help riders safely dismount their bucking horses after the whistle and also keep the rodeo running smoothly by removing livestock from the arena.

Ross Sherrod of Conroe, TX has one of the most interesting stories in professional rodeo. Five years ago, Ross was finishing up his second tour of duty in Iraq as a combat engineer in the U.S. Marine Corps. Ross had joined the Marines in June of 2001, only two weeks after his high school graduation.

Although he is only 24 years old, Saddle Bronc Rider Ty Atchison from Jackson, MO is considered “old school”. Ty is one of the few bronc riders who can be seen wearing spurs on the heels of his boots 24/7; most saddle bronc riders only reserve this practice for the short amount of time they are competing or riding horses at home.
